The Raven A Biography of Sam Houston Texas Classics Marquis James 9780292770409 Books
The book was enjoyable and enlightening if not terribly informative to a seasoned history reader. Perhaps the most enjoyable thing was to compare the Sam Houston In James' book with the person in James Haley's book on the same subject. Without a doubt the author of this book attempted to deify Sam Houston by somewhat over-expanding his many virtues while down playing the negative aspects of the man's traits. To me Haley presented a much more accurate and candid portrait of both sides of General Houston's life. I was somewhat distracted in the book's misstatements of several historical facts. The book is still an important read of the great man's life and accomplishments.

Anyone who loves American history, especially Texas history should read this book. It is my favorite Sam Houston book. Every American should know about Sam Houston.
Very informative.
I think most Americans haven"t the foggiest notion of how much this man did for our country. What a guy!
Sam, the American Renaissance man. Up close, personal. A history that reads like an adventure story. Because his life WAS an adventure story. So well crafted that we feel we know him intimately even though the writer delivers his story with absolute accuracy and historical facts devoid of sentimentality, he illustrates this complicated and remarkable man in a way that we feel we know him profoundly and as deeply as if he were our own brother.
Good biography of a person few people really know anything about.
This read almost like a novel or at least as much like a novel as a nonfiction book can, It is an older book so newer info on him has been discovered but still this book is worth reading
Well told story with extensive investigation into important developments at a turning point of American history. Sam Houston appears as a highly original personality. His understanding and empathy witth the culture and plight of Native Americans are his highest merits.
