Captive Mine edition by Natasha Knight Trent Evans Romance eBooks

Wow! Super hot and dark! I knew going into this book I would love it because it was a Trent Evans book. I have never read anything from his that I didn’t absolutely love. I was new to Natasha Knightly, but familiar with her work from blog hops. Now I can’t wait to read some of her books also. I was hooked on this story from the beginning. Trent has a way of dropping you into a story in-progress without making you feel lost; keeping just enough mystery to make you wonder what this character has up his sleeve or in the back of his mind. I often times get bored at the beginning of a book having to read the back story and history of the characters and nothing happening until you are a third of the way in; feels like a waste of time for me. With this book, you jump right into the action. I like the plot line with its twists and turns, never 100 percent sure who was the good guy and who the bad guy was. The story was well written and edited. Oh and did I say this book was hot? It is smoking hot! Readers really need to heed the warning on this book.

Captive Mine edition by Natasha Knight Trent Evans Romance eBooks Reviews

Captive, Mine
Liked the Anti-hero
Liked the plot
Liked the ending
Did not like the heroine; never found her to be a sympathetic character.
Felt like key pieces of the story were missing? When exactly did Lake start to fall for her? I never felt like she was truly falling for him. She came across as a spoiled brat; never fearful, thoughtful or brave. I just didn’t get her at all.
Missing backstory on him, his wife, how did she die? Did they have a M/s relationship? I assume so?

I dig dark. I dig dirty. And I definitely dig Natasha Knight. I’m not sure what happened here. Maybe it is the dual authorship. I don’t understand how that works really, but every time I felt like I was about to fall into this read, I’d get hit with a crazy Ivan. I really had a disconnect with some parts of the story, because even though I finished it, and feel like I should have loved it, I just didn’t get all of it. Maybe I need to re-read it at some point, but I felt like I missed a couple of key things. Why did Lake fall for Lily? And when? Was it really just her ass? Lake is an interesting character. He seems really intelligent, he definitely has demons, and he is kinky AF, but why? What was his thing? Was his late wife his slave? Or did that come after her death? I am obviously left with a lot of questions that could have helped me get lost in the character like every reader loves to do. I do love a story where the ‘captive’ falls for her captor – and vice Vera – but the conditions have to be right, and while they might have been here, I just didn’t follow. I almost feel bad that I didn’t like this story more, because I do love this author. I look forward to both Retribution and Beautiful Liar. I loved Given to the Savage. I digress. So Lily. Lily was just never a sympathetic character to me. She had every opportunity to be. A good brat is fun; Lily was more annoying than fun. Her turn from spoiled brat, to struggling captive/not captive, to willing Submissive (borderline slave?) …. I missed that last turn. When did she discover she loved the bondage and discipline? Her eventual love (I really didn’t feel the love from her though) for Lake came across to me as more psychological conditioning than true love. And I never was able to keep track of all the secondary characters – her father, his enemy, the FBI agents, the dead wife…. I think this may have been a better read than I’m portraying here, and I would recommend it, but I had a hard time with loving it. I’m just going to have to dive into another of her works, because I know how good they can be!
This was a really difficult book to read and review. I love a good suspenseful and dark read and I am not opposed to some BDSM and non-con sexual activity in a story. This one had that and while I liked how it started and how it ended...the middle was a love/hate thing for me because I didn't really understand Lake's motives with Lily and some of his behavior made no sense whatsoever and had nothing to do with why he kidnapped her.
There were plenty of bad guys in this book as well (Lily's father and his business associates as well as some crooked law enforcement) but my main issue was the extreme lengths Lake went to in order to "prove a point" with Lily.
The scenes between them in the cabin were so intense at times "I" found myself cringing and holding my breath and then in the next minute (like Lily) I was breathing heavy for a very different reason. Whew...some parts were smoking hot and crossed that pleasure/pain line many times.
An interesting collaboration of a male and female author (I wonder if she wrote Lily and he wrote Lake) and I would definitely read more from these two again.
Do heed the warnings though...some of the descriptions are brutal and very explicit.

**** 4 **** "who really captured who" stars
The publisher’s warning on this book had a strange effect on me. When I read it, I could almost feel how my mouth began to water and I just thought; “Give it to me!”

Well, I have read it and I don’t care about what a lot of other people think about it. I thought it was fantastic!
I enjoyed how Natasha Knight and Trent Evens created a good plot, but the characters were for me the main attraction. The main part of the story revolved around Lily and Lake’s relationship and how it evolved. Stockholm syndrome was mentioned several times, but that was the beauty of it all, was it really that or was it so much more?
I really wanted to hate Lake, I tried my best, grinding my teeth at him and telling myself to hate him, but just like Lily I was completely under his spell. He just had me under his thumb and he could do whatever he wanted and I would take it and be his good girl! Lily was a sweetheart and I loved her spirit.

It’s a rough book, but it’s beautiful and that’s my opinion!
