There was a lot that I liked about Soulbound. Adam, the king of of the GIM, believes Eliza is his soul mate but keeping her chained to him because of his his fear of losing her, earned him her hatred. Coming into the story now though Eliza has been freed, and when Eliza runs into Adam again the balance of power between them has shifted, which gives a plausible reason for taking their relationship in a new direction and gives us readers chance to learn more about Adam and his curse. Transitions in enemies to lovers stories are make or break for m,e and this one totally makes this shift work for me.There is a great deal of emotion surrounding of Adam's situation in the story, in his longing for his mate, in the actual consummation, and also in the repercussions for those (the GIM) tied to Adam - and for a time it looks as though more HEAs than just Eliza's and Adam's are at risk. There is also a great set up for our next leading man, Sin, who suffers so here, and also some glimpses into Lucien's pain that make me want to know more of his history.
Where the story worked less well for me was in the ending. While the resolution of the conflict with this story's odious villains was great, I didn't like the vehicle for Eliza and Adam's HEA - and I guess that I missed something about the GIM king situation that made it necessary.
So bottom line is that I liked this -with nits- and I liked seeing Eliza more powerful and Adam more vulnerable.

So this book is an example of how not to write people of color or in this case a biracial character. I read these romance books knowing that the majority of characters are going to be white. That being said if you are going to try to write from the point of view of a biracial character please just do a bit more research. It’s nice that this author tried but she ends up doing more harm than good.
The part that I found most grating was this
His eyes gleamed, a mesmerizing brilliant peridot. “Quarteron. Gens de couleur.” Though his remark was the last thing she expected, the tension along Eliza’s neck released.
“Your golden fae hair makes it harder to detect,” Lucien observed. “Then again, les quarteron are as varied as they are beautiful.” “I’ve never tried to hide it, if that is what you were implying.” Eliza was proud of her parentage, but to use it for sympathy or gain she would never do.”
Soooooo what sympathy or gain can a biracial character gain in this instance???? To generalize identity like this is just laughable. And to ignore the history of what happens to a biracial person passing as white??!!?!
This dialogue also in some ways seems stilted and awkward.
Grovel lovers will enjoy Soulbound. You see, Adam messed up…BIG TIME. Somewhere around Shadowdance he meets Eliza May to do his GIM magic, finds out she is his soul mate and can break his curse and he promptly chains her to him throughout Evernight. Adam is King of the GIM (Ghosts in the machine) and he is cursed by the Queen of the Fae 700 years before. Eliza is the granddaughter of the Queen of the Fae. Eliza sees through all of Adam’s past wrongs and they figure out a way to help each other. And although this story was a little more predictable than the others in the series, it is hands down my favorite. I love stories where the hero does the heroine some kind of wrong and she forgives him. I LOVE that and this book is one big grovel. The end of this book surprised me and to be honest, I still don’t know what I think about it.
Every time I read a new Kristen Callihan Darkest London book, I think to myself - this book can't be as good as the last one and every single time I am happily proven wrong.
I think this is the best one yet. Adam and Eliza are amazing. I FELT every emotion that Ms Callihan wrote. I laughed, I cried, I fanned myself, my heart broke and then mended. This book was fabulous!
I had a hard time imagining Adam and Eliza as a couple after reading Evernight. I started this book with grave concerns and had serious doubts that a love story between these two could be pulled off. I have never been so happy to be wrong!
I won't spoil the story - but this is a must read. Especially, if you read Evernight.
Paranormal romance is not my usual genre - but I made an exception when I decided to read Firelight - justifying that it was a Victorian Paranormal and not really expecting to like it. I was hooked - I have read every book in this series and am already impatient to read Sin's book! I can't recommend this series strongly enough!!
I’ve gotten the feeling that Ms Callihan prefers her men larger than life, and Adam is certainly no exception. And Eliza May is also the typical archetype, frail boned and beautiful with golden curls cascading down, but she does have a wonderful unreasonable stubbornness and Adam does have a sense of humor with a glorious curiosity about anything technological, leading the reader to see why the GIM have those eerie clockwork hearts of theirs. Soulbound is a fascinating look into the history of one of the more interesting original races in Ms Callihan’s works and I certainly wouldn’t mind another foray into the world of the GIMs with the origin of Lucien. The attraction between Eliza and Adam is seductive and undeniable and they were a pleasure to follow the adventures of. I know we have had plenty of installments of this series, but I hope there are still plenty more to come and we haven’t seen the last of this wonderful world of Kristin Callihan’s.
